El Velador Premieres Tonight on PBS
Tonight, September 27, 2012, Natalia Almada’s “El Velador” premieres on PBS’ POV. The documentary is a film about violence without violence: a poetic and lyrical look at the drug war in Mexico through the eyes of Martín, a man who watches over the mausoleums that house some of the country’s most notorious drug lords.

“There were several cars with notes like these,” said Griselda Suarez, a lecturer in the Department of Chicano and Latino Studies at Long Beach State. “Our car had the yellow note.” [OC Weekly]
Someone felt that it was necessary to go out of their way to scramble for paper (not that they are of different colors), locate markers, think of a message, write it out and then walk around looking for vehicles that might belong to Mexicans/ people of Mexican descent.
I spoke with my mom about this and she had the same reaction that I would have had if I found this note on my car, a hearty laugh and a “son pendejos if they think we’re leaving because they can’t find a spot on the beach.” Haters gonna hate, my mom is great.
i showed mi amá and she just goes “pobrecitos, en serio que de todo se quejan los gabachos… ‘amonos a la playa mija, yo sí les pongo unos chingadazos bien puestos”
oh but dont worry just try to talk it out with them. i’m sure they’ll understand. white people are very understanding!
